NATURAL DISASTERS IN 2020
2020 has been estimated to be the worst year for the most dramatic natural disasters due to the worsening of climate change.
Noteworthy are Cyclone Amphan, said to be the Bay of Bengal’s fiercest storm this century, which hit the coasts of eastern India and Bangladesh in May 2020 rendering an estimated 500,000 people homeless and damaging nearly 220,000 homes.
Locusts infestations in East Africa and Southeast Asia have forced farmers not only to deal with crop losses but struggling with emerging environmental and health problems due to the repercussions of the spraying of chemical substances used to kill the insects.
In times of climate change, we must respect nature.
