FIRST INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FOODLOSS AND WASTE
September 29th, 2020 was the first International Day of Awareness of Food Loss and Waste, instituted by FAO and UNEP with other associations.
In total, about 1/3 of the world’s food is lost or wasted every year; and with it, the resources and the energy used to produce it too.
The food loss (between harvest and retail) is about 14%, instead, the food waste (retail and consumption level) has a higher percentual.
In a world which has a strong disparity between countries that are almost starving and countries with huge food availability, we need to reduce and stop the food loss and waste.
“For the people. For the planet”.
